I spent a several years creating and refining what I thought Outdoor-Tek program's vision should be, along with a lesson plan format. Then I spent a year developing and piloting an enrichment program for an elementary campus based on that vision. The program's vison is pretty simple in that it is to encourage students to spend some time outdoors daily in nature discovery and appreciation. The program took place for an hour or two as an elective, after school and included 2nd-5th grade students. I used technology to support the program, but the emphasis again is nature appreciation and discovery. In the process, I have collected many online tools and resources. Most of these are not original, so I have published the Resource page entitled, Lesson Plan Resources, to curate these tools. My goal is to provide a lesson plan format and the components for that plan in one place. My thought is, anyone with a desire to, would have a one-stop- shop to create a lesson and host an enrichment program for nature appreciation and discovery.

Hiking - Checklists
Checklist "Under an inch"
Checklist "Birds"
I introduced this in the fall when the birds and hummingbirds were plentiful especially since Brownsville is in the migration path of many birds heading further south.
The "under an inch" was to incorporate measurement into the field studies and to have students examine a variety of places for nature. I bought some inexpensive rulers at Dollar Tree so that students could carry them outdoors with this checklist. I use many "scavenger hunts", bingo and checklists to give students a general direction when they head outside, but we usually got off topic when something in nature caught their eye, and that's when it got fun.
